The Message

This is something that I received as a video message on Whatsapp one day and I was really amazed by the powerful message that it conveyed. So I decided to share it with you via my blog. I hope you like it.

A group of alumni, who were highly established in their carrers, got together to visit their old university Professor. As they got talking, conversation soon turned towards stress in life and work. Offering his guests coffee, the Professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and some cups. Some of these cups were expensive while others were cheap, plastic ones.

When the guests had helped themselves to the coffee, the Professor said,” As you all must have noticed, everyone has taken their coffee in the beautiful, expensive cups while leaving the cheap ones behind.” He continued,”While it is natural for you all to want all the best things for yourself, that exactly is the source of all your problems and stress. Keep in mind that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In some cases, it is just more expensive and sometimes it even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee and not the cups, yet you went for the best cups and began unconsciously eyeing each other’s cups. Now consider this, life is the coffee while things like job, position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not define, or change the quality of life we live. Savor the coffee, not the cup. The happiest people don’t have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything.”
