A Letter

Dear Pratik,

Today is the day of new beginnings. But before beginning anew, we must reminiscence on the past to understand where we might have gone wrong and to learn from those mistakes.

Last year was an eventful one for you. You started the year well, doing good work in the company, making new friends. Life was good, if not great. Then the thing you may have been dreading happened. You did not receive an admit to pursue higher studies from any university that you applied to. That was the lowest point of your life so far. Never had you been so miserable. So what did you do? Did you shout, call the universities some names? No, you did nothing of that sort. Rather, you cried yourself to sleep.

Then came the time to take some tough decisions. The job was not interesting or challenging for you. So you decided to quit and take up research. The latter did not pay even half of what you were earning before, but you were satisfied. Doing something you enjoyed. You encountered some tough challenges. You came across people who knew more than you, who seemed to know everything. You questioned yourself, felt that you were not qualified enough. You passed some tests and failed some. But you never gave up. You persevered. You worked hard to understand the concepts. You continuously questioned ideas. Searched for new ones. In short, you believed in yourself. You laughed and you cried in the process, and in the end, it paid off.

However, now is not the time to tell exactly how it all fell through. Now is the time to experience things. To enjoy every moment. To savor the small things in life.  Taste success and take failure in your stride. And I am here for that purpose. To be there for you all along in your upcoming journey.

Shall we go?

Yours,

Pratik of the Future
